Notable Events

  • Turned registration back on.  (Dec 17, 2006)

  • Turned off the registration for the time being.  (Dec 11, 2006)

  • By popular demand, changed player list to show players in ranked order.  (May 1, 2004)

  • I just noticed we've hit the big time -- ContraPloy has a Google directory listing!  (January 17, 2004)

  • Changed to allow configuration of center barriers when creating game.  (January 1, 2004)

  • ContraPloy II.  Note: also changed ContraPloy I to disallow half-stepping.  (December 27, 2003)

  • Posted preview of ContraPloy II.  (September 20, 2003)

  • Implemented maintenance job to delete inactive players.  (February 24, 2003)

  • Added a link on the Tactics page to Andy's Lineup Strategies page.  (October 26, 2002)

  • Fixed a problem (feature?) where if a player refreshed the page on a move, it would sometimes give the player a second move.  (July 16, 2002)

  • Miscellaneous page added.  (June 9, 2002)

  • Changed the scoring system.  If the loser of a game drops below 1.0, the winner no longer receives the difference added to his rank.  This removes the absurdity of a 1.0 player being rewarded a full point for beating another 1.0 player, versus receiving a lesser .73 for beating a higher ranked, 2.0 player.  (May 23, 2002)

  • Fixed a problem with the game board applet where it would throw an error on Mac OS X when pressing the Ready button or trying to make a move.  (May 4, 2002)

  • Decided I wanted ContraPloy to be like all the popular games.  Added the mythical theme: elves, lions, ninjas, tax accountants, and the lone figure in blue.  (April 28, 2002)

  • Added a little Sun Tzu to the Tactics Page.  Enjoy.  (April 18, 2002)

  • 2002 Tournament starts.  (April 1, 2002)

  • Game email notification added.  (March 25, 2002)

  • Help page added.  (January 18, 2002)

  • Tactics page updated.  (January 16, 2002)

  • Game resizing added.  (January 5, 2002)

  • Web based play, automatic player ranking, and game log added.  (December 29, 2001)

  • Tournament completed. (November, 2001)

  • Player registry, mail, and message board added.  (August 30, 2001)

  • 2001 Tournament starts.  (July 15, 2001)

  • Feedback from several players has been received:  Chat feature.  Chat feature.  Chat feature.  It's now at the top of the list!  Thanks, and please keep the feedback coming. (April 17, 2001)
Historian's note: this feature later slipped off the top of the list.  The details surrounding this occurrence are shrouded in mystery.

  • The inaugural game!  The honorable Andy Pearson of Eden Prairie, MN, USA takes on the master.  After a couple of bruising games, he emerges 0 for 2.  Though not unscathed, he knows this is the price of experience.  Undaunted, he is already plotting his revenge...  (March 24, 2001)

  • Due to popular demand (or popular uprising), I added more explanation and examples to the rules.  (March 21, 2001)
